The Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma is closing out its 2024 Summer Feeding Program this week, after distributing more than 500,000 meals to children and families across the region — nearly double the number served last summer.
The organization says the increased demand highlights just how critical the program has become for families struggling with food insecurity during the summer months, when school meal access is limited.
“It’s a vital program for families in Oklahoma to make sure their children are fed when they might not have extra cash during the summertime to feed those kids,” said Jeff Marlow, CEO of the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
The summer meal program wraps up Friday at most participating sites. It’s one of several seasonal efforts by the food bank aimed at supporting Oklahomans during times when resources are stretched thin.
