Utility bills are going up this fall for Broken Arrow residents after the City Council approved a series of rate increases on Aug. 4.
Starting Oct. 1, customers will see higher monthly charges for water, sewer, stormwater and solid waste services. The new rates will appear on November utility bills.
City officials say inflation, growing service demands, and increased construction costs made the hikes necessary.
$13: Estimated monthly increase for an average household
The city estimates a family of four using 7,000 gallons of water per month will see their total monthly bill go up by about $13.
$1.58: Water service increase
This includes changes to both the base rate and the usage rate per 1,000 gallons.
$4.13: Sewer service increase
Sewer rates are rising more sharply than water, reflecting higher treatment and infrastructure costs.
$0.50: Stormwater fee increase
Stormwater services, which help manage runoff and drainage, will see a modest bump.
$2.50: Refuse (sanitation) service increase
Trash and recycling pickup will also cost more under the new plan.
Utility rates are a routine part of city budgeting, but even small monthly increases can add up for households. The city says rising operational costs across departments forced the changes, and it plans to release comparisons with other cities in the region soon.
The new rates take effect Oct. 1 and will be reflected in bills sent out in November. City officials said they plan to provide additional information and billing comparisons to help residents understand the changes.
