Investigators said a code enforcement officer came to Bailey’s house because his grass was overgrown. They said Bailey pointed a gun at that enforcement officer and threatened to kill him, so that officer then called for help.
Muskogee Police said its special operations team showed up and an officer tried talking to Bailey, but Bailey told them he wouldn’t come out because he had been assaulted by them. Officers said Bailey eventually came out with an AR-style gun and positioned himself on the side of the house.
Police say two officers shot at Bailey first, and Bailey fired back. He died at the scene.
“He’s not in the right frame of mind, and obviously, you’re an ordinary citizen, and even the guns we deal with on a daily basis are not an AK-47 of the drum magazine, so, take it all into account, we took it serious,” said Deputy Chief Chad Farmer, Muskogee Police. “That’s why we brought the Bearcat up there, and when you come out aggressive with the rifle, that’s when they put rounds on it.”
Muskogee Police said it had no prior history with Bailey. The officers will remain on leave until the investigation is finalized.
