A: “My cousin played on a team here in Tulsa,” Letterman said, “When I was little, it looked really cool, so I decided to just join and I stuck with it ever since.”
She started skating at just 8 years old.
A: Anneka tried out in Austin, Texas, one of six national tryout locations. Hundreds competed, and only 40 skaters were selected:
“20 for open and 20 for female,” Letterman said.
A: In the Female Division, they faced off against Australia, Denmark, New Zealand, Mexico, and Sweden over a tough three-day tournament.
“They were really tough,” Letterman said, “So I’m glad we were able to win the whole thing.”
A: “I love how empowering the sport is and how inclusive it is,” Letterman said. “It's a very safe space for everyone.”
A: “It was really great to be able to have my community be there for me and help me get there,” Letterman told us at the airport. “It’s pretty overwhelming, but it’s really awesome... I’m really glad we got to come back with a gold medal.”
A: She plans to keep skating until she ages out of the junior division — and then hopes to join the adult leagues.
The next Junior Roller Derby World Cup is scheduled for 2027.
