A Muskogee man is dead after exchanging gunfire with police officers on Thursday, according to the Muskogee Police Department.

Police identified the man as 34-year-old Clayton Bailey, of Muskogee.

Officers responded to the 600 block of Christy Drive after receiving reports that Bailey was pointing a rifle at a code enforcement officer. Police said he went inside his home and refused to come out.

When the department’s Special Operations Team arrived, he exited the home and opened fire on officers, who returned fire and fatally shot him, police said.
