WHITNEY’S STORY

Loved ones of Whitney say this past week has been heartbreaking.

"It's been nice to be surrounded by a lot of love and a lot of compassion,” said T.J. Craig, who is married to Whitney’s first cousin. “But at the same time, it's been very difficult."

Craig flew in from Indiana to support his family.

"From the moment I met her, it felt like we had always known each other,” said Craig. “She just gave me the sense of that we were connected at that point."

Whitney was a person who could make everyone feel special.

"She was just a genuine person,” said Craig. “She had a unique ability to make everyone feel like they were absolutely special to her."

They want Whitney to be remembered for the person she was, not what happened to her.

"She was one of the most kind, caring people I have ever met,” said Craig. “I've said that multiple times this week and it's been echoed by everyone we've spoken to."

The family has been touched by all the people reaching out to them with memories of Whitney and how she changed their lives for the better.

"If there's something that I'm taking away, it's that, I would love to be remembered even half of the way I think people are going to remember her,” said Craig.
