As the back-to-school season approaches, financial experts say the time to start shopping is now, especially with prices expected to rise due to new tariffs.
According to Coresight Research, 62% of Americans plan to begin their back-to-school shopping before August. That’s an increase of more than 8 percentage points compared to last year.
Coresight's John Mercer said tariffs are already having a noticeable impact on consumer prices.
“Tariffs have gone up, even if deals are struck. The baseline of tariffs has gone up,” Mercer said. “More tariffs are due to come in on August 1, and the flow-through to prices is really only going to be upward.”
Oklahoma’s tax-free weekend begins August 1 and includes many clothing items, though school supplies are not covered. Still, experts recommend taking advantage of any savings opportunities where possible.
