UPDATE: The Ride the Current kayak tour is canceled for this season due to the shuttle company closing down, according to Zink Lake Rentals.

Zink Lake Rentals sent the following statement:

We are saddened to announce that the Ride the Current kayak tour from Sand Springs to Tulsa will not be launching this season. This decision comes due to the closure of Zink Lake Recreation, the company previously responsible for providing the shuttle service essential to the tour's operation.
While we have worked tirelessly to explore every possible solution including efforts to operate the shuttle service internally through Zink Lake Rentals. We were ultimately unable to find a viable alternative in time for the season.
We want to clarify that Zink Lake Rentals and Zink Lake Recreation are two completely separate companies. Zink Lake Rentals is not affiliated with or operated by Zink Lake Recreation in any way. The recent shutdown of Zink Lake Recreation has unfortunately made it impossible for us to offer the full experience for the tour.
We share in your disappointment and remain committed to offering unique outdoor experiences in the Tulsa area and hope to bring Ride the Current back as soon as possible.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Zink Lake is back open in Tulsa, and with it comes a new way to enjoy the water.

Zink Lake Rentals and Zink Lake Recreation have partnered to create 'Ride the Current,' a 6-mile self-guided adventure down the Arkansas River from Sand Springs.

"We provide everything," said Manager of Zink Lake Rentals Angi Schaefer. "We provide the kayak or paddleboard, the paddle, and life jacket."

Paddle at Your Own Pace

The 6-mile kayak or paddleboard trip is estimated to take 2-3 hours, depending on the current's flow. However, they encourage people to go at their own pace.

"Just being on the river itself is completely different," said Schaefer. "You can feel the breeze, just being on the water; you do not hear the bustle of the traffic as much, and you can see all the animals."

Take the Scenic Route

Every 'Ride the Current' experience starts by meeting at Zink Lake Rentals at 17th & Riverside. Participants will then be shuttled to Case Community Park in Sand Springs to get in the water.

"I have heard people will paddle all the way down here from Case Park, and then go all the way back, and at this point, you are fighting against the current," she said. "It is not going to be as fun."
