Indie rock band Cherry Vance is set to perform in Tulsa on July 26 at Mercury Lounge as part of a string of summer shows that includes stops in Oklahoma City and Dallas. The group—based in Nashville—features Tulsa connections that run deep, both personally and musically.
Cherry Vance is led by co-founders, lead singers and songwriters Liv Haynes and Jude Maloy. The band also includes Gigi Haynes on bass, Dom Toso on drums, and Ari Ruchman on electric guitar. The group is known for their emotionally charged performances, raw songwriting, and melodic rock sound.
Maloy was born in Tulsa and still spends every holiday in the city, while sisters Liv and Gigi Haynes were born just outside of Tulsa and lived in the area for three years during their early childhood. The band says Tulsa has played a key role in shaping their musical identity.
Cherry Vance cites local and regional artists as major influences, including Tulsa native LANY, Ryan Tedder, The All-American Rejects, The Flaming Lips, and Kings of Leon. The band says much of its songwriting is inspired by family memories and personal stories tied to the Tulsa area.
Cherry Vance has steadily gained momentum, recently performing their biggest show to date by opening for indie rock band Slow Pulp in Champaign, Illinois. The group sold out their merchandise and earned praise for a standout performance that helped expand their fan base.
Since that milestone, Cherry Vance has headlined fan-favorite sets including packed backyard shows, Nashville venues like The End and the East Room, and a performance at the iconic Bluebird Cafe.
The band’s debut release, Live at East Iris, drops August 8. Recorded at East Iris Studios in Nashville, the live EP captures the group’s signature sound and on-stage energy.
All five band members have been playing music from a young age. Liv and Gigi were previously part of the pop punk band “Not Ur Girlfrenz,” making them the youngest artists to ever perform on the Vans Warped Tour.
The group’s name was inspired by the character Cherry Valance from The Outsiders, which is set in Tulsa. After realizing they had misspelled the last name, the band decided to keep it—with a slight twist—as a nod to the literary connection and their Oklahoma roots.
In addition to their July 26 show in Tulsa, Cherry Vance will open for Jude’s father’s band, The Nixons, in Oklahoma City on July 23. On July 24, they’ll perform in Dallas, opening for the band Poolhouse.
Cherry Vance continues to build a following on social media and streaming platforms. The band can be found on:
