Oklahomans will get the chance to hear the United States Air Force Band of the West in person later this summer as the group kicks off a four-day concert tour across the state.
Based in San Antonio, the band is made up of 61 professional musicians who travel the country as musical ambassadors of the U.S. Air Force. Their upcoming Oklahoma tour includes stops in Oklahoma City, Claremore, Tahlequah and Enid, with each performance open to the public and free of charge.
The Oklahoma leg of the tour begins Sunday, August 25 in Oklahoma City. The band will then perform in Claremore on Monday, August 26 and Tahlequah on Tuesday, August 27. The final Oklahoma stop is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28 in Enid.
The tour will continue into Texas with performances in Amarillo and Lubbock on August 29 and 30.
The Band of the West performs hundreds of free concerts each year and travels more than 125,000 miles annually. According to the Air Force, their mission is to connect with military and civilian communities through music while promoting morale and public relations.
The ensemble includes both large and small groups capable of adapting to different events, ranging from formal concerts to patriotic ceremonies and community outreach.
