Travelers on the Turner Turnpike between Tulsa and Oklahoma City will need to plan ahead for rest stops, as the westbound Stroud service plaza is now closed for construction.
The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority announced the closure took effect July 15 as part of a long-term improvement project. The rest area is not expected to reopen until fall 2025.
With the closure, there are no official rest stops with restroom facilities on the stretch of I-44 between the two cities. That’s raising concerns for drivers—especially families and those with medical needs—who rely on the plaza for breaks during the nearly 90-mile drive.
Officials recommend using nearby exits to towns such as Kellyville, Bristow, Chandler and Wellston, where gas stations, fast food restaurants and other businesses offer public restrooms.
The Turnpike Authority encourages travelers to plan their bathroom breaks to avoid long stretches without access to facilities.
Once completed, the upgraded Stroud Plaza will include new amenities for both commercial truck drivers and passenger vehicles.
