Despite the rain, volunteers and residents gathered in Catoosa on Friday to take part in a community recycling event focused on electronic waste.

Organized with support from the Electronic Synergy Foundation, the event aimed to educate the public on the importance of safely recycling electronics.

"There's lead, there's mercury, there's cadmium," Scott Metzger with Electronic Synergy Foundation said. "There's all these things that are toxic to humans that you don't want going in a dump where it's going to sit and eventually release its toxins to the environment."

If you missed the event, Metzger said there’s still time to participate. The Electronic Synergy Foundation accepts electronic drop-offs year-round at its Tulsa location.
