Twelve team members from Tulsa and Oklahoma City were deployed, including a group with prior experience in North Carolina flood response in 2024. The team is working alongside others from across the country to search for victims as the waters recede. A trio of human remains detection dogs from Tulsa is also part of the recovery mission.
Baker also addressed recent fire activity in Tulsa over the holiday weekend. A house fire in Tulsa near 111th and Sheridan is believed to have involved fireworks, although the cause remains under investigation. Another house fire occurred in East Tulsa, along with multiple grass and dumpster fires.

He emphasized the importance of properly disposing of fireworks, noting that even legal usage can lead to dangerous conditions if remnants are tossed in household trash.
The Tulsa Fire Department is preparing to graduate 23 new firefighters on July 24. Chief Baker said the incoming class will help boost staffing levels across the city. A new academy class is already in the planning stages for the fall, with candidate interviews set to begin soon.
Baker said the recruitment pipeline remains strong as the department works to maintain readiness for both local and national emergencies.
