A newly released budget calls for cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The document proposes giving no funding to the agency's climate laboratories or regional climate data, and zeroing out research at NOAA weather research programs and weather laboratories. This also includes tornado and severe storm research.
The National Weather Service in Norman could be shut down with dozens of others across the country.

The weather lab researches to better understand and forecast severe weather as well as provide warnings across the United States.
They have also made several contributions to keeping people safe by utilizing the Advanced Weather Processing Systems (AWPS) that is used to make accurate forecasts and building the first ever mobile Doppler radar to detect severe storms.
Sen. James Lankford said he would continue monitoring the agency's budget request as it makes its way through the appropriation process due to the work they do.
"NOAA and the Norman lab do essential work in early detection, forecasting and research," Lankford said.
