The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking for answers after possible human remains were found in Delaware County on Monday.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says this started when a farmer was working nearby and came across what he believed to be human remains.
What started out as yard work soon turned into police work.
“This is an open investigation right now. We don't have no clues, no nothing like that of what we're dealing with right now. At this point, the only thing we have is the remains,” said Delaware County Sheriff Ray Thomas.
They got the call from a farmer working in his field.
“He was out brush hogging his farmland,” Thomas said.
The medical examiner’s office will identify the person and determine the cause of death.
“We have OSBI, the medical examiner's office, Grove Fire Department, Delaware County Sheriff's Office, and the District 13 Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force,” said Captain Josh Bynum.
The Sheriff’s Office searched for more remains, using drones, trucks, and side-by-sides on the three acres of land. They’re grateful for the help from surrounding agencies.
“There are resources that other agencies have that we don't have, and likewise, that we have that they don't have. So the collaboration since taking office has really come together, and we can ask for anybody, anywhere, anytime inside of Delaware County, and we get a response,” said Bynum.
They are asking anyone with information that might be useful to their investigation to give them a call.
“They know more because they have more eyes out there. I mean, we only have so many, so when we ask the public for this kind of help, it's easier to reach that and get their information, because they see and hear more than we can at all times,” said Bynum.
