Car lovers have a rare chance this summer to do more than just admire vintage automobiles, they can actually ride in them.

The Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum in Sapulpa is offering rides in vehicles that are more than a century old.

Fourth Year of Saturday Rides

Now in its fourth year, the program lets museum visitors take a ride in restored cars from the early 1920s. This summer’s lineup features a Cadillac and a Packard, both from the 1920s and both carefully maintained and road-ready.

The museum offers these rides every Saturday in the summer, giving guests a chance to step back in time.

A Blast of Nostalgia

Richard Holmes, president of the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum, said the rides stir strong emotions, especially for older visitors who remember these vehicles from their youth.

“It’s just nostalgia going back and seeing cars that they never thought they could ever ride in because they were so expensive, so they’re tickled about that,” Holmes said.

What makes the experience even more meaningful is the setting. The rides take people to Pretty Water Lake and the museum is right along historic Route 66—the iconic highway that helped shape the American road trip.

Both featured cars are American-made, adding another layer of history to the outing.

Holmes said sharing that history with guests of all ages makes the experience special.

“It’s really a ride back in time 100 years,” he said. “It’s fun to be able to see a 100-year-old car, but actually to ride in one just makes people giggle.”

How to Take a Ride

The museum is offering rides every Saturday through the summer, weather permitting.

Anyone interested in taking a ride in one of these cars can call the museum at 918-216-1171 or visit the museum's website.
