The superintendent of Epic Charter Schools has resigned, just a week after the district announced hundreds of layoffs. The district is now searching for a new superintendent. The school also said it's closing its in-person learning centers, and a lot of families are wondering what all these changes will mean.
Sandra Caceres's kids have been going to Epic Charter Schools for the past seven years.
"It's been great. Like my kids love Epic," said Sandra.
She says with everything going on, she's concerned with Superintendent Bart Banfield's resignation.
"It leaves us with a lot of questions, like, what is going to happen? Are we going to be able to open the schools again?" she said.
Epic Board President Ginger Casper spoke highly of Superintendent Banfield in a statement, saying, “Bart Banfield’s leadership has helped shape our school and strengthen its mission to provide an exceptional, personalized education for students across Oklahoma."
Banfield's departure is the latest change, along with shutting down the in-person learning centers and laying off 357 employees in an effort to remain financially stable.

Sandra says that leaves parents like her in a bind.
"Not only the teachers lost their job. We lost our jobs. Like I'm working. I work from eight to four. So it's like I was here before 4:30 to pick them up. So it was gonna be great, but now that if it closed, I have to quit my job, because there's no way I can work and homeschool at the same time?" she said.
Deputy Superintendent Justin Hunt will serve as interim superintendent. Board President Casper says in a statement, “Mr. Hunt brings with him a strong commitment to Epic’s mission and a deep understanding of our community’s needs."
News On 6 did ask Epic for a statement addressing Sandra's concerns, but haven't heard back yet.
