Caden Gillard discovered his passion for music while undergoing chemotherapy at age 14.
During treatment, he picked up a guitar and began writing songs—an outlet that soon evolved into a lifelong pursuit.
Following his release from the hospital, Gillard pursued another passion: bull riding. He began competing in high school after receiving medical clearance and eventually earned a rodeo scholarship to Sul Ross State University.
His success in the arena led to a permit with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, where he traveled nationwide with friends, balancing life on the road with his dedication to music.
Gillard is set to perform at Cain’s Ballroom as the supporting act for country artist Randall King. Taking the stage from 8 to 9 p.m. on May 30, the show marks a milestone for the musician, who says the historic Tulsa venue has long been on his bucket list.
In 2024, Gillard co-wrote “Don’t Take Her Texas” with Hayden Haddock, Blaine Rudd and Johno Clayton.
The song tells the story of loving someone who’s bound to leave and the pain that comes with choosing to love them anyway. From the first writing session, Gillard knew he wanted to record it.
For Gillard, the best part of being a musician is performing live, meeting fans and witnessing people connect with his lyrics.
He says, seeing audiences sing along reinforces why he continues to write and perform. He continues to write rodeo-inspired songs and remains deeply connected to that world.
