State wildlife officials are investigating a major fish kill in Garfield County after wastewater flowed into Skeleton Creek, killing fish along a 13.5-mile stretch of waterway.

Game wardens said the source of the contamination appears to be high ammonia levels coming from a nearby municipal wastewater treatment plant.

Experts are still assessing the full environmental impact, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
