People in Sapulpa are cleaning up after High winds knocked down trees, shattered windows, and damaged a church and several homes.
Timothy Martin, a Sapulpa resident, shared his astonishment at the sudden storm.
"This is the first time in 44 years that I had two trees down at one time," he expressed, reflecting on the unprecedented nature of the event.
The trees that fell near Martin's home had been a part of his family's landscape since his parents built the house. He announced that a family member would be coming in the morning to assist with cutting the trees down.
Across town, the community rallied to support a local church that suffered extensive damage.
Pastor Johnny Merrell recounted the frightening moment when the storm hit:
"I was over at home, and all of a sudden, it just got dark really quick. The weather moved in, rain started coming sideways, and the wind picked up really, really fast,” Merrell said.
He had just sent the staff home when disaster struck.
After posting a video of the damage on social media, Pastor Merrell was overwhelmed by the response.
"We've got people that don't even go to church who showed up to help. We've got people donating that don't even go to our church. Other pastors are helping. It's just been unbelievable what they've done," Merrell said, expressing gratitude for the community's support.
