A new multibillion-dollar industrial project is taking shape in northeast Oklahoma—one that state leaders are calling a “generational” economic win.
Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), the world’s largest producer of premium aluminum, is investing $4 billion into a new facility at the Tulsa Port of Inola. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and significantly boost U.S. aluminum production.
Here’s what we know about the massive plan and its potential impact.
EGA has announced plans to construct a 350-acre aluminum production plant in Inola, a town just east of Tulsa. Once completed, officials say it will be the largest aluminum facility of its kind in the United States.
The company’s decision puts Oklahoma in the spotlight as a growing hub for global manufacturing.
The project is expected to create 1,000 direct jobs and another 1,800 indirect jobs across the region, according to state officials.
Mike Neal, president and CEO of the Tulsa Regional Chamber, praised the announcement in a statement, saying:
“The scale of this project will transform lives across northeast Oklahoma. The Port of Inola is proving it has global pull, and we could not be more excited about the future.”
The new facility is projected to produce 600,000 tons of aluminum annually. This would significantly increase domestic supply and support key sectors like aerospace, automotive, food and beverage, and defense.
If the plan proceeds, officials say it will mark the first primary aluminum plant built in the U.S. in nearly 50 years.
Oklahoma’s incentive package includes $275 million in state funds, tax exemptions, and power discounts to support the project.
Governor Kevin Stitt, who signed a preliminary agreement with EGA, called it a milestone moment for the state.
“This is a monumental day for Oklahoma,” Stitt said. “We’re proud to welcome Emirates Global Aluminum and excited about the generational impact this will have on our state’s future.”
While the agreement between EGA and state leaders is in place, it still requires final approval from the Oklahoma Legislature.
Officials say once the plant is operational, it could nearly double U.S. aluminum output.
The Port of Inola is already home to another major international company—Italian paper manufacturer Sofidel.
With EGA joining the fold, economic development leaders say Oklahoma is proving its strength on the global stage.
