Local law enforcement participates in Special Olympics Oklahoma torch run

Law enforcement officers from Green Country kicked off the Special Olympics Oklahoma Torch Run in Tulsa, carrying the "Flame of Hope" to Stillwater for the Summer Games.

Law enforcement officers from across Green Country laced up their running shoes Wednesday morning and hit the streets for the Special Olympics Oklahoma Torch Run.

The relay began at 6 a.m. from New Block Park, 1710 Charles Page Blvd., with participants carrying the "Flame of Hope" on its journey to Stillwater for the Summer Games.

"We have multiple agencies out here led by Tulsa Police Department, the Broken Arrow Police Department, Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, Lighthorse Police, the whole Tulsa Police Academy, all out here," said Broken Arrow Police Chief Lance Arnold. "It was just a great day to come out and show our support and get the torch started from Tulsa going to Stillwater to kick off this year's games."

Officers are running the torch from Tulsa to Stillwater to begin the Special Olympics games.

The Special Olympics begins Wednesday, May 14, and runs through Friday, May 16. You can learn more by visiting the Special Olympics Oklahoma website.
