Students at Jarman Elementary are getting a healthy reason to smile this week.
On Tuesday, the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation's Cavity Prevention Clinic arrived at the elementary school, offering free dental care to second graders. The initiative is part of the foundation’s mission to improve access to oral health care for children across the state.
Cavity Prevention Clinic Provides Vital Services
Jarman Elementary students lined up for dental assessments, fluoride treatments and sealants — all administered by licensed dental hygienists contracted by the foundation. The services are provided at no cost to families and focus on preventive care that can help students avoid future dental problems.
'This program makes a real difference for kids who might not otherwise see a dentist regularly,' says Terrisa Singleton, director of the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation. 'We’re proud to help build healthier futures for these students.'
Education Part of the Package
Alongside treatments, hygienists and Delta Dental representatives spend time in classrooms, teaching second graders the basics of oral hygiene and why daily care matters. The goal: help kids not just receive care, but understand the habits that promote lifelong dental health.
'Educating children about brushing, flossing and regular checkups is just as important as the treatments themselves,' Singleton adds.
A Win for Families and the Community
Jarman Elementary Principal Shawna Graham says the clinic represents a valuable community partnership that supports student health and academic success.
'When kids are in pain or distracted by dental issues, it can affect their ability to learn,' Graham says. 'This program removes barriers and gives our students the tools they need to thrive.'
