Dozens of people in Muskogee are remembering a man who died after being found severely injured on a road.
There was a vigil Sunday for Ashton Wright, who was found in March.
He was taken to the hospital, but later died.
The people out there say their goal was to make sure people don’t forget about Wright and to show they aren’t giving up on finding out what happened.
Loved ones of Wright held up signs and wore shirts with his face on them, trying to bring eyes to his case.
“I feel like our case is kind of being, not pushed under the rug but it slows down after a month or two so I just want to remind people that we’re not going to give up on him,” said Markaya Breshears, Wright’s sister.
His family says Wright was a good father and loved making people laugh, and they miss him terribly.
“He was my boy,” said Patty Goodrich, Wright’s grandmother. “He was a good, good boy. He never started trouble with nobody.”
The goal of the vigil was to get people talking about Wright’s case and other murder victims’ cases in Muskogee.
“I hope they just realize it can happen to anybody. I didn’t think I was going to lose my brother at 16, and my nephew obviously was going to lose his dad, and you always think, ‘this can’t happen to us, this won’t happen to us,’ until it does, and when it does, it’s like, ‘boom,”’ said Breshears.
It means a lot to his family to see so many people supporting Wright and asking for answers on what happened to him.
“It makes me happy,” said Goodrich. “He had a lot of friends, a lot, a lot of friends.”
“It’s crazy because you don’t really think these things will happen to you and you don’t really know how many people support you or in your corner, until this happens, and then you’re like whoa, everybody loved him,” said Breshears.
Muskogee Police say Wright was found at South L St and Frankfort St severely hurt on March 31st.
He was taken to the hospital where he died.
Muskogee Police haven’t said if any arrests have been made in this case.
