The City of Hominy is dealing with a collapsed water line that has left faucets dry since Wednesday. Emergency Management Director Felix Nance said a 12" line under the dam at Lake Hominy failed, shutting off the only supply line to the water treatment plant.
Officials say they have completed a temporary repair on Friday, and water is going to the treatment plant, and they will be restoring water service once the plant has had enough time to catch up.
City Councilor Brandon Wallace says it would take several days to fill the water tanks to create pressure and allow disinfected water to flush out the system.
The City is distributing bottled water as long as their supplies last, and non-potable water, at the intersection of Hwy 99 and Friends Street. Residents need to bring their own jugs to fill up the non-potable water.
Hominy Mayor Donnie Reed said residents could expect a boil order to continue as the City flushed air out of the lines, and considering the age of the system, more breaks could be expected before the system is fully operational.
Reed said grants are in place to make permanent repairs, but he had no timeline for how long it would take.
