Rising waters across Oklahoma have created some unusual sights — including one that’s equal parts unexpected and entertaining.
A Viral Catch Outside the Bowling Alley
In Shawnee, floodwaters turned the parking lot of Firelake Bowling Center into a temporary fishing spot. Nathan Williams, a well-known outdoorsman and champion noodler, spotted a gar swimming in the shallow waters between a nearby creek and river. Naturally, he jumped into action — by hand.
From Tournament Champion to Viral Star
Williams, founder of Adrenaline Rush Adventures, is no stranger to grabbing fish bare-handed. But even he admitted this was a first.
“I never thought I’d be able to noodle while we’re bowling, but here we are,” he said in an Instagram video.
Helping the Gar Get Home
Williams told News On 6’s Tess Maune that he didn’t keep the fish. Instead, he relocated it to deeper water so it could return to its natural habitat.
A Shared Passion for Noodling
Tess Maune, an avid noodler herself, once joined Williams and his sons on a hand-fishing trip for a News On 6 Outdoor Life segment. The fast-paced segment gives viewers a firsthand look at the unique sport through the eyes of two passionate Oklahoma noodlers.
