A 'boutique' career fair is underway in Broken Arrow, aiming to connect local job seekers with employers in a more personal and impactful way.
Rather than the typical job fair experience, organizers say this event focuses on building relationships and helping applicants stand out beyond a resume.
The “Work in BA Career Fair” is hosted by the Broken Arrow Economic Development Corporation and takes place on April 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central on Main Ballroom.
Organizers say the setup is intentionally small to foster more one-on-one interactions between companies and job candidates.
“Rather than just feeling like a number, applicants will have the opportunity to create personal connections,” said Deandre Fahie, director of workforce development and talent attraction.
Fahie adds that this approach gives job seekers the chance to showcase their personalities and skills beyond what’s written on paper.
Fahie says the city is particularly focused on filling shortages in healthcare and manufacturing.
“A big challenge that we see is in the healthcare and manufacturing sectors,” Fahie said. “So those individuals that do come to this career fair who do have that background have an opportunity and a high chance to get employment because our manufacturers and our healthcare companies are desperately seeking to fill those positions.”
City leaders say the fair is also a great opportunity for those just entering the workforce or considering a career change.
Whether you're ready to start immediately or just exploring options, the “Work in BA Career Fair” offers a chance to connect with local employers eager to hire.
For those who may not yet have a resume or need to make adjustments, Fahie says they are there to help.
The career fair is open to anyone who may be seeking a job. Fahie says it will help give back to the overall Broken Arrow community, "we want to have opportunities for job seekers to be able to come to this event and be able to meet with employers, showcase their skills, and get into employment, or even move up into something better, and for the employers to be able to make that connection, to get those jobs filled and to get that great talent that is known here within our community."
More than a dozen employers are participating, including:
The career fair runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. It’s free to attend, and job seekers are encouraged to bring a resume, though staff will be on hand to help create one if needed.
Fahie recommends attendees arrive with confidence and enthusiasm, ready to engage.
They also ask those looking for employment to register online to attend the event. Pre-registration is not required, but is encouraged.
