A man was killed and two others were injured in a crash involving a deer early Monday on a rural Mayes County road, authorities said.
The incident began around 6 a.m. on South 430 Road, just south of West 500 Road, when a driver struck a deer. The man called his parents for help, and they arrived at the scene shortly after.
As the family was assessing the situation, another vehicle traveling southbound struck the disabled car, pinning the father, who had arrived to help. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver who initially hit the deer was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital with injuries. The mother was transported by ambulance. Both were injured, but their conditions have not been released.
The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities said that the driver was not seriously injured.
South 430 Road remains closed in both directions as crews work to clear the scene and investigate the crash.
