Career
With over 25 years of coaching experience and 496 career victories, Coach Norris has established himself as one of the premier high school basketball coaches in the state of Oklahoma. Prior to joining Union, Norris led Edmond North High School to statewide prominence, capturing back-to-back OSSAA Class 6A State Championships in 2022 and 2023, a runner-up finish in 2024, and a semifinal appearance in 2021. His leadership earned him numerous honors, including 2023 NFHS Section 6 Coach of the Year, 2023 NFHS Oklahoma Coach of the Year, and 2022 OCA Region 8 Coach of the Year.
Coweta
Before Edmond North, Norris served as the head coach at Coweta High School, where he guided the Tigers to multiple 5A State Tournament appearances and claimed an Academic State Championship in 2012. His teams have been recognized annually with the OSSAA Distinguished Academic Achievement Award from 2020 through 2025.
College Experience
Norris also brings collegiate coaching experience, having served as an assistant women's basketball coach at Missouri State University during its historic 2001 NCAA Final Four run. He was later the head women’s basketball coach at Oklahoma Baptist University, where he led the program to five consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances from 1996 to 2000. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Baptist Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.
Union Athletic Director Emily Barkley shared her excitement about the hire.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome Coach Scott Norris to the Redhawks family,” Barkley said. “His winning pedigree, dedication to academic excellence, and history of developing student-athletes make him the ideal leader for our program’s next chapter.”
Norris also has personal ties to Union. His wife, Wendy (Vaughan) Norris, is a 1988 graduate of Union High School and a member of the Union Athletics Hall of Fame. She excelled in both softball and basketball during her time as a Redhawk. The couple has three sons—Zach, Caleb, and Braden—and two grandsons, Coby and Knox.
