Highly touted OU Freshman DL David Stone is staying with OU after promising debut season

UPDATE: David "Stoney" Stone Jr. has decided to withdraw his name from the transfer portal.

After consideration, OU freshman Defensive Lineman David Stone Jr. said he has removed his name from the portal and will be returning to the University of Oklahoma to continue his education and career as a Sooner.

One of the biggest signings for Oklahoma football in the Class of 2024, David Stone, has entered the transfer portal according to CBS Sports and confirmed by Stone on social media. The defensive lineman posted a cryptic message on social media several days ago showing his commitment ceremony, as speculation about his future began to swirl.

Stone is seen with his final three school choices of Miami, Oklahoma, and Michigan State.

Stone, the highly touted defensive lineman from Del City, Oklahoma, began his collegiate football career with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2024. Standing at 6'3" and weighing 294 pounds, Stone was a consensus five-star recruit, ranked as the nation's top defensive tackle by ESPN and Rivals .​

Stone's high school career started at Del City High School, where he earned All-City First Team honors in 2021. He then transferred to IMG Academy in Florida for his junior and senior years. At IMG, he became a MaxPreps Junior All-American in 2022 and helped lead the team to a 10–0 record in 2023 and build his status as one of the top players in the country.

The commitment from Stone was seen as a defining moment for Oklahoma recruiting at the time.
