Drivers who use North Gilcrease Museum Road will need to prepare for major traffic changes as the city begins a new phase of construction.
City officials say the arterial section of the road is now under repair, with only one lane remaining open during the initial work.
Crews are starting with surface improvements. The current phase includes milling and patching the aging roadway before repaving it with fresh asphalt.
In addition to roadwork, the project includes several infrastructure improvements. New sidewalks and curbs will be installed along the stretch. A modern stormwater drainage system is also part of the upgrade.
Only the northbound lane will stay open during this phase of construction, allowing traffic to move in a single direction.
Once the southbound side is completed, the city says it will reopen the lane and begin repairs on the northbound side.
The city estimates work will be completed in early summer, although weather and other factors could affect the timeline.
Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes and allow for extra time during commutes.
