Gov. Kevin Stitt delivered his State of the State address, outlining his vision for Oklahoma’s future while emphasizing conservative governance and economic growth. Stitt highlighted the state’s progress over the past six years and introduced new initiatives aimed at strengthening the economy, education system, and families.
Here are the key takeaways:
1. Protecting Oklahoma Taxpayers
Stitt reaffirmed his commitment to cutting taxes and ensuring taxpayers keep more of their earnings. “I’m calling for a half and a path – a half point cut to the individual and business income tax and a path to zero income tax,” he stated. He pushed back against concerns over revenue loss, adding, “When we cut taxes, the money doesn’t disappear. It simply stays in Oklahomans’ pockets and gets reinvested in our economy.”
2. Making Oklahoma a Business-Friendly State
Stitt touted Oklahoma’s economic growth and pro-business policies, highlighting recent successes. “We have become a top ten state for business. We are number four for GDP growth. We are number two in lowest cost of doing business,” he said. He also called for the completion of business courts to “make sure business disputes and complicated contracts will be handled by judges with business expertise.”
3. Safeguarding State Savings
With the state now holding its largest savings account in history, Stitt proposed setting a $4 billion savings floor to protect Oklahoma from economic downturns. He credited fiscal responsibility over the past six years with allowing the state to cut taxes while maintaining financial stability.
4. Protecting the Oklahoma Way of Life
Stitt emphasized faith, family values, and public safety, announcing an expansion of fatherhood programs and a continued focus on border security. He highlighted efforts to reduce virtual school days, enforce cell phone-free school policies, and provide parents more control over education choices, calling education freedom a priority.
5. Commitment to Conservative Policies
Stitt pledged to continue fiscal conservatism and limited government, introducing DOGE-OK, a new initiative focused on reducing government waste. “Today, I’m launching DOGE-OK to keep the focus on flat budgets and limited government,” he announced. He stressed the importance of disciplined policymaking, stating, “The greatness of our state depends on discipline and the willingness to set the right priorities, even when it’s difficult.”
Concluding his address, Stitt reaffirmed his vision for Oklahoma’s future: “Oklahoma is a shining city on a hill, and the American Dream is alive and well here.”
