Five days after a fire destroyed Fur Ever Friends Rescue, the Oklahoma City metro community continues to show support for the organization.
Donations and assistance have poured in from across the metro, including from Norman, where one business owner is going above and beyond to help.
Sergio's Italian Bistro, located near downtown Norman, is known for its traditional Italian. For owner Sergio Garcia, his love for animals is just as strong as his passion for food.
"I love animals, my staff loves animals," said Garcia. "I highly value what all these rescues are doing. It has to be so hard.".
When Garcia saw the news of the fire that destroyed the Choctaw-based rescue last Tuesday, he knew he had to act. The fire wiped out the organization’s supplies, as well as the barn that housed its rescue dogs.
“We need to do something,” Garcia said.
On Sunday, Sergio’s Italian Bistro donated 20% of its net sales to Fur Ever Friends Rescue. Guests were also encouraged to bring donations such as dog leashes and collars, which Garcia promised to deliver to the rescue.
With the restaurant packed soon after opening, Garcia expressed gratitude for the community's support.
“We rely on the community, and we love to give back to the community,” he said.
Sergio's Italian Bistro will continue to collect pet supply donations throughout the week to support Fur Ever Friends Rescue.
