A Bartlesville man is recovering at home after being attacked by dogs five days ago.

Randal Florence has all sorts of cuts and bite marks after he saved a woman from a dog attack.

Florence says he doesn't regret putting his life on the line to save a stranger and would do it again.

He said he had a day off from work last Friday and wasn't sure what to do with his day.

"I'm like, do I run to Braum's and get breakfast really quick no, I'm going to go ahead and start working this morning and get something done," he said.

Florence says if he had gotten breakfast, he wouldn't have heard a woman yelling down the street.

"These five dogs had a hold of this woman, there wasn't really no time to think I knew she was defenseless," said Florence.

If he didn't get the dogs off her, Florence said they would have killed her.

At one point Florence said the dogs stopped so he rushed the woman to safety. Then the dogs attacked again.

"One of the dogs grabs me by one leg and I'm like are you serious, you know, and they were because another one grabs over at this leg and like throws its whole body and basically twisted my legs and had me down on the ground like that, and I see another coming at me so I threw this arm basically fed it this arm," said Florence.

Meanwhile, his neighbor was looking to fight back.

"She somehow grabbed like a rake or a broom and is over here kind of waving it towards the dogs telling the dogs no don't mess with him and I was very thankful," Florence explained.

Florence and the woman, who is okay, then got help.

He now is recovering and has more than 100 stitches because of the more than 25 dog bites.

Florence says people keep calling him a hero, and while he appreciates it, he says the praise belongs to someone else.

"I think about what Jesus did for me you know what I mean, if anybody got anything from it like he needs to be getting the credit you know what I mean? I don't want to be called a hero, you know, because mine is in the Bible."

Doctors told Randal he would need physical therapy to help him walk properly, and it would take about six months to fully recover from his injuries.

Bartlesville police say the dogs were euthanized.

Florence says he still doesn't know the name of the woman he helped but he does plan to introduce himself.
