Before the Cowboys host the Arizona State Sun Devils at Boone Pickens Stadium, Oklahoma State's Homecoming features the popular walkaround on Friday night.
Greek Life Students were working around the clock to prepare for the crowds in Stillwater.
It is unlikely anyone in the fraternity and sorority houses got any sleep Thursday night because they were up putting tiny pieces of tissue paper into giant metal frames to create elaborate artistic displays for walkaround. The university expected 100,000 people to be there on Friday night.
If homecoming were a required class at Oklahoma State, these students would ace every exam. After all, they’ve been studying since last winter.
Tyler Holland says don’t underestimate a farm kid.
“I think this is why we have such a big and awesome homecoming because everybody has somewhat of an agricultural background,” he said. “You grew up doing that stuff. You know how to do it.”
Stuff like hydraulics was part of how Sigma Chi’s homecoming display came to life.
The other part is quieter in the warehouse in the back. Ruby Anne Myers is one of the sorority sisters in charge of pomping.
“We use millions of these tiny squares to create really cool patterns.”
They planned to be up all night finishing their display along with others at different houses.
They might not get class credit, but they don’t call it “America’s Greatest Homecoming” for nothing.
OSU has a downloadable map of all the walkaround locations. There will be food trucks and other vendors out on Friday night.
