As people across Green Country are putting up ghosts and carving pumpkins to get ready for Trick or Treaters, Sapulpa is turning its attention to another holiday.

In just two weeks, the Route 66 Christmas Chute will be back to bring the spirit of the holidays.

"The vibe that you get once it's up and once it opens up and you are walking down the street, it's almost like being in Mayberry or something,” Amy Shepherd, volunteer, said. “Everyone is happy, just seems to have a lot of love in their heart, and just a fabulous experience to walk down the street."

But to get to that point takes a lot of work.  Shepherd and other volunteers are pulling out all the decorations and making sure each one is hung with care for the Christmas Chute.

"We will be down here, not every day but several days a week,” Shepherd said. “Just how many people we can get down here and however much we can get done depends on how long we will be down here."

While the snowflakes and gingerbread men are only up for a couple months, the planning by organizers like Jennifer Dilley happens year-round.

"We never stop,” Dilley said. “I think now we are used to it because it's year three, it's like a well-oiled machine. Everybody has their job, they know what their job is, and then we get the job done, and then we move to the next job and it's like clockwork."

The next couple of weeks will be all hands on deck to put the finishing touches on each chute, but the volunteers are passionate about making it the best it can be.

"I am third generation, and I absolutely love this community,” Shepherd said. “There is nothing like it and a lot of people will tell you that. We are very blessed with this community that loves to serve their town and volunteer."

The opening night is Nov. 14th, and the chute lights will turn on at 5:30. For more information about the event, click here.
