Sapulpa is one of only a few communities selected to be a part of Oklahoma's Kickstart 66 tour in 2026.
The Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission Program is holding a meeting on Thursday afternoon to discuss ideas for the tour. Officials said that more than 20 state partners are expected to attend.
Molly O'Connor is a member of the commission and said the tour's focus is on rural communities on Route 66, which includes Sapulpa, Miami, Clinton, and Arcadia.
O'Connor said the goal of the Kickstart 66 tour is to help smaller communities build their local economies and development efforts.
“Our goal is to get a lot of information about resources, grants, services that are available in these communities out to as many people as possible," O'Connor said. "And then to foster that networking in conversation on how to build on those ideas and how to collaborate.”
The meeting will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Waypoint Lounge in Sapulpa, and it will be open to the public. Officials said they're hoping to see business owners, city and county leaders, as well as nonprofit organizations.
