Animal Rescue Foundation Trying To Care For Sick Cats

The Animal Rescue Foundation of Tulsa says it is struggling after taking in an overwhelming number of sick cats.

The foundation says it rescued a month's worth of cats in a week.

The rescue says most of the cats it took in this week need urgent care and now, it's on track to exceed its monthly budget in just the first week of March.

Taking in cats of all ages and getting them back to good health is all in a day’s work for Animal Rescue Foundation of Tulsa.

But before they make their way to get their health checkup, they first have to meet Volunteer Laura Chapman.

“These innocent souls don’t have anyone else to turn to,” Chapman said.

The rescue says it took in more than 30 cats last weekend and as part of the intake process, the cats were taken to Southern Hills Veterinary Hospital to meet Doctor Nichole Cronquist.

She says it was just in time.

“These babies are coming in really, really sick. They are requiring intensive I.V. fluids, I.V. antibiotics, really around the clock care that we can provide for them,” Cronquist said.

Through care comes the expense, and an already tight budget for the animal rescue is quickly being exhausted.

“We have two kittens here right now, and they’ve been here since Monday, and they’re in isolation,” Cronquist said.

Ava and Brando, both kittens about 10 weeks old, now have a second chance at life, all thanks to their care and their friends at the rescue.

But another. didn’t share their same fate.

“We’ve had one significant death so far. One of our little kittens, Kenneth, he actually passed away unexpectedly. He was suffering from a pretty bad infection. He was born outside,” Chapman said.

The rescue says it averages about $10,000 in vet expenses each month at just one of its partner clinics and treatments for more serious health problems quickly get expensive.

Chapman says the rescue urgently needs to raise money to continue giving care and find the kittens their forever homes.
