With another special session on the horizon, an oversight group organized by the Oklahoma legislature relays in a new report that the state does not have the funds to survive an economic downturn.
The state legislature is priming for a special session ahead of its regular session to take another look at cutting taxes for Oklahoma.
"The citizens have clearly told us they want to do it," Rep. Jon Echols (R-Oklahoma City) said. "All of the data is crystal clear. The citizens want a tax cut."
Sen. Julia Kirt (D-Oklahoma City) said she wants the legislature to consider the repercussions of a potential tax cut.
"In five days could we truly look at a potential tax cut and analyze what that might impact in terms of services and what people expect from their state," Kirt said.
The special session is set to kick-off on Jan. 29, while the regular session is slated to start on Feb. 5.
