Moderna is asking the FDA to authorize its COVID-19 vaccine for children under the age of six.

It comes following a clinical trial during the Omicron surge.

Moderna says through its study, it didn't find any new safety concerns or any children get severely sick after getting vaccinated, so they're hoping to get the green light from the FDA.

Moderna's Vaccine for children under six is a quarter of the dosage given to adults.

The company says the vaccine had a strong neutralizing antibody response for that age group.

The clinical trial revealed a more than 37% efficacy rate in children ages two to six and a 43% efficacy rate in children six months to two years old.

“So the data look pretty good right now," Dr. Anthony Fauci said. "They are going to make those data available to the FDA. They will be submitting within a reasonable period of time for an EUA for that particular group, for that particular purpose.”

Moderna also plans to study a booster dose in children.

Right now only children five and up are eligible to take the vaccine.
