HIV/AIDS Advocate Helping to Stop The Spread of the Virus

Greg, a Cherokee Nation Health Services patient, has been helping with HIV and AIDS prevention for as long as he can remember.
 
 “HIV does not discriminate,” Greg said. “It does not care what race or sex you are; it will affect you if you do not practice safe sex.”
 
 About 15 percent of the 1.1 million people in the U.S. (1 in 7) are unaware they are infected with HIV.
 
 “In order to prevent the spread of HIV it is important you get tested and know your status,” he said.
 
 Of course, the best way to prevent HIV is to practice safe sex and getting on proper HIV prevention medication, such as Truvada ® used for PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, which can help lower your risk of getting HIV and and reduce the high rates of new cases of HIV in Oklahoma.
 
 Greg chose to get tested because it was the right thing to do and he wants to do everything he can help prevent the spread of HIV in Oklahoma.
