Oklahoma State dismissed two players on Thursday but the Cowboys will get a big addition this weekend, when 6-foot-11 Yankuba Sima gains eligibility after transferring from St. John’s last December.
Sima will be a huge addition to a very thin OSU frontcourt. Senior Mitchell Solomon (6-9, 240) and sophomore Lucas N’Guessan (7-0, 220) are the only other Cowboys listed taller than 6-foot-7.
Sima averaged 6.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in his short-lived sophomore season at St. John’s. As a freshman, he started 18 games and averaged 7.3 points and a led the team with 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. Oklahoma State will need his rebounding and shot-blocking with Big 12 play approaching.
The Cowboys are in Sunrise, Florida for the Orange Bowl Classic on Saturday where they’ll face No. 19 Florida State.
