A Blanchard man shot and killed his parents on Tuesday and was later found dead inside their home after an officer-involved shooting. State agents said 56-year-old David Zimmerman died from a gunshot injury.

The Oklahoma State Bureau is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Agents are working to determine if Zimmerman died during a shootout with police or if it was self-inflicted.

Residents in a Blanchard neighborhood near 300th Street and Meridian Avenue witnessed a tragedy unfold.

"I just felt something was wrong so I called the McClain County Sheriff's department," said the neighbor.

The man heard gunshots coming around 11 a.m. from Alan and Barabara Zimmerman's home. The neighbor said the married couple's son had mental health issues.

"I don't mean nothing bad about mental people, he got discharged from the Army because he's mental," said the neighbor. "And I've seen him at my house before, talking to people who aren't there."

The OSBI and area law enforcement responded to the home after McClain County Sheriff's Office deputies reported seeing the Zimmerman's bodies inside, and the suspect refused to come out.

"I could hear him hollering out of the house occasionally and the officers talking on the loudspeaker," said the neighbor. "David come out of the house, come out of the house, put your hands up and come out of the house.' They said that probably 40 times during the day."

The OSBI said the standoff ended with gunfire from Zimmerman and police. A photo from a neighbor shows the front of the victim's home was breached by a tactical vehicle. Despite the suspect's death, the investigation is not over.

"There were a lot of agencies on scene when the shooting occurred," said Hunter McKee, OSBI. "We're going to have to look into all of that, who exactly fired their weapon."

The Zimmermans were in their 80s. It is unknown why their son killed them.

The McClain County Sheriff said his deputies have responded to the Zimmerman's home a number of times in the past, but did not say what the calls were for.
