A state lawmaker has asked Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond to step in and decide if plans for a new governor's mansion can legally move forward.

Plans to use $5 million in private donations to pay for the new 14,000 square foot mansion were approved by the Capitol Preservation Committee last week.

However, Oklahoma House Rep. Andy Fugate (D-District 94) said he wants to know why the plans did not need approval from the legislature, and fears taxpayers may still be on the hook when it comes to managing the property.

“At a time when fiscal responsibility and transparency are more important than ever," Fugate says. "We must ensure that any decisions involving public dollars are made lawfully, thoughtfully, and with respect for the people of Oklahoma."
