The Oklahoma Route 66 Association is giving travelers a chance to bring Will Rogers along on their adventures. The group has launched “Flat Will,” a caricature of Rogers designed to share his legacy across the Mother Road and beyond.
The caricature of Rogers was created by Cherokee artist Tom Farris of Norman. Organizers say the project is a playful tribute to Rogers’ love of travel and an opportunity to share Oklahoma history with others on the road.
Fans can pick up a free Flat Will at several Oklahoma cultural sites, including:
Flat Wills are also available through the Route 66 Association’s website for the cost of shipping at oklahomaroute66.com. A black-and-white coloring page can also be printed at home here.
Rogers rose to fame in the early 1900s and, by the 1930s, was one of the most famous people in the world. After his death in 1935, Route 66 was officially named the Will Rogers Highway, since the road linked his family ranch in Claremore to his California home.
Travelers are encouraged to share their photos on social media using the hashtag #FlatWill. The association also invites visitors to stop by the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore or the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch in Oologah to learn more about Oklahoma’s Favorite Son.
