Eugene Field Elementary School in Tulsa is going the extra mile to make sure every student walks in on day one with confidence and clothes to match. It's in its 10th year of providing students with resources through its clothing closet and hygiene and food pantry.
“I really believe that by being able to nurture and support our families in this way, that it does help,” said the school's principal, Angela Callahan.
When starting a new school year, you want to look and feel your best. Anna Chincon is with Communities in Schools, says that’s why the Tulsa community is making sure no child is left without the essentials through its clothing closet. The school's clothing closet offers everything from shirts and jeans to shoes and backpacks, all donated by those who want to make a difference.
“It’s just about eliminating barriers for students, whether that be food, shelter, clothing,” Chincon said.
Chincon says that through support, families gain confidence, and that's why they're there for every student and every family. She says it's about more than the clothes on the racks of the shoes on the shelves, but the message behind them.
“That they’re loved, that people care about them, that we want to see them succeed, and we want to do the best that they can here in school and go on to have an amazing future,” she said.
If you are interested in donating to Eugene Field's clothing closet, you're asked to call the school directly.
