The Bixby Spartans had all eyes on them heading into week one of the high school football season in 2024 after losing the season opener to Owasso in week zero.
Braeden Presley said, "I mean they just whooped us. After that game we all got together and decided to prove we are the best."
They went on to win every game but one, the regular season finale with Norman.
The Spartans then won every playoff game by double digits, and then the state championship by one point in an overtime thriller with none other than Owasso.
"I think our group last year took that next step in the players and showed everybody who this team is and kept their heads down," said Loren Montgomery.
When asked how they handled that adversity and look to change the narrative on how they'll start the season this year, you could see the confidence through the answers they gave.
"We want them to adhere to our core values and continue to develop them as players and all of them have a ton of room to grow and haven't come anywhere near their ceilings," added Montgomery.
With the starting quarterback, several receivers, and a line on both sides all coming back with the experience they gained last year, they could very well win their eighth straight state championship.
It begins week zero with the Owasso Rams in a 'Battle of the Burbs' game at H.A. Chapman Stadium on August 28th.
