A man's body was recovered from the Illinois River by authorities on Thursday afternoon.

Justin Alberty with the Grand River Dam Authority told News On 6 at the scene that a body was reported in the water by some floaters.

Authorities responded to the area, north of Tahlequah, around 1 p.m., where they removed the body from the water.

Alberty said all he can confirm is that it was a male and he was found in the water. He said the Medical Examiner will determine other factors, like the cause of death and how long the body may have been in the water before being found.

Several agencies respond to the call with the GRDA, the Cherokee Marshall, EMS and the Green Country Funeral home.

The GRDA is handling the investigation. More details will be released once we get them.
