CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Drumright Firefighters rescue cow from pool

A surprising rescue in Drumright after a cow wandered into a backyard and ended up in the swimming pool.

Firefighters stepped in to help... and the whole thing was caught on camera.

For the past 10 years, Jamey Martin has shared his adventures as a Drumright firefighter through videos on social media.

"It began with a kind of a vlog via GoPro helmet cam, but escalated into content that would promote the department and promote fire service in general," said Martin.

In that time, he's posted videos of fires, fire trucks, and even raccoon rescues. On Monday morning, they got another call for an animal rescue, but this time, something bigger than a raccoon.

"This was unique as in it was a livestock, an actual cow, and not only a cow, but a cow in a swimming pool," said Martin.

'Gordon, there's a cow in the yard!'

A cow had wandered onto Gordon Brown's property looking for water when it fell into his four-foot above-ground pool.

"While I was getting my coffee, my wife said, 'Gordon, there's a cow in the yard!'" said Brown.

Martin and his team arrived, GoPro in tow, to rescue the cow.

"They was kind of scratching their heads. I think this is probably the first time they'd ever fished a cow out of the pool," said Brown.

With some chains around the cow and a truck winch, they were able to pull her out—as she jumped to the edge of the pool.

"The cow actually did participate in its own rescue. We were just there to guide them," said Martin.

Taking care of the community

Gordon says he's grateful for the hard work of the firefighters.

"I said I don't know what I'd do without you guys coming out here, because I couldn't get her by myself," said Brown.

And despite his video already getting more than a thousand views online, Martin says Gordon's thanks is all he needs

"We're here for the citizens, all emergencies, and you know, all life in general. If we have time and we can do something like that—a cat in a tree, you know, the ducks out of the side of the gutter—then we're gonna do those things, you know, take care of the citizens in our community," said Martin.
