Tulsa Area United Way is broadening its coverage area in northeastern Oklahoma, expanding services to cover all of Rogers County, along with Mayes and Delaware counties.

The move comes after the United Way of Rogers and Mayes Counties ceased operations earlier this year.

Why the Expansion Happened

The expansion follows the April 1 closure of the United Way of Rogers and Mayes Counties. That decision was prompted by the retirement of longtime executive director Catherine Woldridge.

Before shutting down, the organization allocated two years of funding to existing nonprofit partners. That ensures support through 2026, giving Tulsa Area United Way time to integrate and assess needs.

TAUW previously served parts of Rogers County but now fully includes it, along with two additional counties, bringing the total to eight across northeastern Oklahoma.

Leaders Behind the Effort

Tulsa Area United Way's Board of Directors approved the expansion earlier this year. Following the vote, a task force of staff and volunteers was formed to lead the transition.

Key members of the task force include:

  1. Chelsea Levo Feary, Owasso Chamber of Commerce
  2. Elizabeth Hall, Sanford & Irene Burnstein Family Foundation
  3. Ross McLaughlin, QuikTrip Corporation
  4. Christine Williams, Williams Construction

TAUW also announced plans to add two board members from the new service areas this fall to ensure local representation.

“As someone who has dedicated my life to public service, it has been a deeply personal experience chairing this task force,” said Levo Feary. “Our mission is to listen first, learn always, and lead with humility.”

What the Expansion Means for the Region

TAUW President and CEO Alison Anthony said the organization is honored to serve these additional counties.

“When you visit Rogers, Mayes and Delaware counties, you immediately see the strength of their communities,” Anthony said. “We are honored to partner with these neighbors as we begin our work to empower individuals and families with the tools and resources they need to thrive.”

TAUW said the expanded coverage area provides greater opportunity to connect residents with human services and promote long-term community well-being.

How Funding Decisions Will Be Made

As with its current operations, TAUW will use a volunteer-driven process to determine how funds are distributed. Trained community volunteers will:

  1. Review grant applications
  2. Conduct nonprofit site visits
  3. Evaluate financials and governance
  4. Assess program impact and effectiveness

"This process ensures donor investments are directed toward evidence-based solutions that create the greatest possible impact on community needs," said Tulsa Area United Way in a news release.
